Brow Lift

For many people, the forehead and eyebrows are areas of the face that show some of the first signs of aging. Over time, the skin on the forehead and around the eyes loses elasticity, causing wrinkles and the appearance of drooping eyebrows or upper eyelids that can make a person look older than they feel. With a brow lift by Dr. Larry Lickstein, patients from throughout Northern Virginia and Loudoun County can achieve a naturally more refreshed and youthful appearance.

What is a Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery, sometimes referred to as a forehead lift or eyebrow lift, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the upper portion of the face. During a brow lift, a plastic surgeon elevates the brow line, removes excess skin, and smooths wrinkles on the upper face. Horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical creases between the eyebrows, and wrinkles between the eyes and on the bridge of the nose can all be improved with a forehead lift or eyebrow lift.1

Brow Lift: What to Expect

Preparing for Brow Lift

The most essential step in preparing for a brow lift is to attend a personal consultation with Dr. Larry Lickstein. Here, Dr. Lickstein will perform a brief examination and review of your medical history before educating you about the brow lift procedure. You will be given detailed instructions on how to prepare for your eyebrow lift as well as what to expect during the recovery time.

The Brow Lift Procedure

There are a number of different brow lift techniques, and Dr. Lickstein will customize your procedure to suit your unique goals and features. Brow lift surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Some limited brow procedures such as a browpexy can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.

To begin the brow lift surgical procedure, Dr. Lickstein will make an incision. Next, he will tighten underlying tissues, elevate the eyebrows to a more youthful position, and trim away any excess skin. The incision is then closed with sutures.
For some patients, an endoscopic brow lift is suitable to meet their goals. During an endoscopic forehead lift, Dr. Lickstein makes small incisions on the scalp. An instrument called an endoscope is used to elevate the brows and upper eyelids and smooth the forehead skin.2

Recovery After Brow Lift

Following a brow lift, it is normal for patients to experience some bruising and swelling. A cold compress can help reduce swelling, and Dr. Lickstein will prescribe pain medication to help you stay comfortable. As you recover from a brow lift, it is helpful to rest with your head in an elevated position. Most patients are able to resume normal (non-strenuous) activities 7 to 10 days after a brow lift procedure.
